The History
Amidst farmland and rolling prairie, one event shines brightest every summer: the annual Flush Picnic. Founded in the early 20th century by German-speaking immigrants, Flush (also known locally as "the Flush church") was planned as a thriving town around St. Joseph’s—as seen in the 1901 church building that still stands proudly today. The town’s early momentum slowed when proposed rail lines were never built in 1914, but the church remained as a cornerstone.
Legend has it that the tradition of the community picnic began in the 1930s, under the stewardship of Father Biehler. The Flush Picnic has evolved into a beloved church fundraiser. Once a modest fried-chicken supper, it has flourished into a full evening of food, games, and family fun, pulling in over 1,000 participants from near and far.
This year’s Picnic, set for Saturday, July 26, 2025, promises all the cherished traditions.
